Furniture slipcovers are great for DIY decorators – the sort of people that would prefer to give an old sofa or chair a makeover or repair it rather than wasting their hard-earned cash on a new one. Often, old furniture has a lot of life left in it, despite looking a bit tatty and worn, not to mention outdated. Faced with a ripped or stained sofa, some people might decide to splash out on a new suite. However, if your sofa is comfortable and sound, just not particularly attractive to look at, you could save yourself loads of money. Instead of replacing it with a brand new one, the easy and inexpensive option is to simply cover it with a slipcover! Of course, if you were really thrifty, you might try to make your own slipcovers. But, given the choice of ready made slipcovers that are available to order online to be delivered to your door in just a few days, spending hours of your precious time messing about with pieces of fabric and a sewing machine for the sake of saving a few dollars seems counterproductive. It can be complicated to make fitted slipcovers, so unless you really love sewing, buying some ready made ones seems the better option.

Furniture covers come in various sizes to fit most standard sized sofas, loveseats and arm chairs, as well as ottomans, recliners, wing chairs and dining chairs. So, rather than just using a slipcover to disguise the worn upholstery on your sofa, you could easily give all your seats a makeover and a coordinated new look. All sorts of colors, shades and patterns are available, so you shouldn't have a problem finding slipcovers that blend well with your room's décor and color scheme. Slipcovers are also designed to be incredibly quick and easy to fit, so it's possible to transform that ugly old couch in a just a few minutes.

In addition to improving the aesthetic appeal or updating the style of your furniture, slipcovers have a practical function too. Generally, they are fully machine washable, so if your cat has a habit of sleeping on the sofa or your dog enjoys jumping on your furniture with muddy paws, it's no hassle to clean the dirty marks out. The same applies if you've got a young child (or a messy husband!) who has a tendency to spill drinks or drop food on your seats. Look for a durable slipcover made from 100% cotton or a cotton blend, that will stand up to lots of use. If you're looking for do-it-yourself ideas on how to revamp your old sofas and chairs, then using slipcovers could be the perfect solution.
