.) Clean your rain gutters of leaves and debris at least once per year. But doing it every spring and fall would be even more efficient.

.) Apply a caulking wherever a paved area meets the foundation wall.

.) Install downspouts to direct water runoff from the roof to a discharge point as far away from the home foundation as possible. Never bury them under ground.

.) Buy a proper size dehumidifier to lower the natural humidity level in your basement.

.) Keep the doors and windows to your basement closed, year round. Opened doors and windows allow extra humidity to enter your basement, causing condensation.

.) Re-grade the ground to slope away from the home foundation. Add dirt around the home every couple of years if needed due to settling of the ground.

.) Make sure the plumbing is leak-free, and chemically or mechanically dehumidify the air. Be sure to empty the drain pan!

.) Check the window wells. Are they clean and well maintained? You may want to use plastic covers and metal housings for window areas.

.) If using a sump pump, make sure it works and is running in good condition. If you don't have a sump pump, check into getting one.

.) Fix every even-so-small waterproofing problem before it gets big. There are several waterproofing paints and sealers on the market. They can work well for minor dampness on walls and floors.

However be aware that Interior waterproofing paints and sealers don't do anything to alleviate the "source" of the problem which is the water coming from the Outside!

These tips may not clear your water problem a hundred percent, but they will sure help reduce the problem. Following these tips ensures to save you money, and maintain a dry basement.
